Police descend on leafy Stockport suburb after supermarket stabbing

A leafy Stockport suburb became a crime scene this morning following a stabbing. Cops and paramedics scrambled to a Tesco Express store in Heaton Moor shortly before 7am today (April 12).

After their arrival, a man in his 50s was arrested, while another man — in his 30s — was taken to hospital with ‘minor stab injuries’, police said. The arrested man also sustained ‘minor injuries’, GMP added, and was also taken to hospital.

Photos taken by the M.E.N. from the scene show crime scene investigators capturing images for evidence. The store was closed for a portion of the morning, witnesses said, with a cordon stretching across several shops on Heaton Moor Road and the shop’s car park.

Workers in a fishmonger’s near to the scene said they started work at 5.45am, but had shop shutters down so they did not directly witness the incident. They did, however, hear ‘police sirens and radios on quite loud’, one man added.

A statement from police said they believed the incident was ‘isolated’. “Officers were called to reports of a stabbing in Heaton Moor, Stockport, at about 6:50am this morning (12 April 2022),” a spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News.

“Police believe this to be an isolated incident at this time.”
